04.04.18 | Plastic Suppliers, Inc. announced today new financing facilities of $35 million including funding for capital expansion of $23 million to increase capacity in 2018 and 2019 in response to growing demand for its EarthFirst® sustainable packaging and label film businesses. Funding for the expansion comes from two facilities: an $8 million facility to expand and add manufacturing to its Ghent, Belgium site and a $27 Million facility to fund growth and add additional production capacity to its Columbus, Ohio manufacturing facilities.

By the end of January 2018, the Dallas, TX and Fullerton, CA locations will be closed and operations will be centralized at PSI’s Columbus, OH headquarter location. Columbus will continue to service a wide variety of specialty packaging and industrial films for PSI’s North American customer base including manufactured, converted and distributed product lines.

Oil and gas company Total SA and lactic acid specialist Corbion NV are joining forces to develop bioplastics by creating a 50/50 joint venture to produce and market polylactic acid (PLA) polymers.
The two partners plan to build a PLA polymerization plant with a capacity of 75,000 metric tons per year at Corbion's site in Thailand that already has a lactide (PLA monomer) production unit set to become part of the joint venture.

Thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions AG has developed its own manufacturing process for the bioplastic polylactid acid (PLA) and is now building the first commercial plant to produce its patented PLAneo technology in Changchun, China.
In a statement on 14 December, the German industrial systems supplier said its customer was COFCO Corp., a supplier of agri-products offering a range of foodstuffs and services.
