01.10.17 | Thyssenkrupp to build PLA plant in China By: Plastics News Europe January 9, 2017 Thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions AG has developed its own manufacturing process for the bioplastic polylactid acid (PLA) and is now building the first commercial plant to produce its patented PLAneo technology in Changchun, China. In a statement on 14 December, the German industrial systems supplier said its customer was COFCO Corp., a supplier of agri-products offering a range of foodstuffs and services.

01.04.17 | The results of European Bioplastics’ annual market data update, presented today at the 11th European Bioplastics Conference in Berlin, confirm a stable growth of the global bioplastics industry. “The market is predicted to grow by 50 percent over the coming years despite the low oil price,” says François de Bie, Chairman of European Bioplastics.
12.16.16 | Paris/Amsterdam, November 16, 2016 - Total and Corbion are joining forces to develop bioplastics by creating a 50/50 joint venture to produce and market polylactic (PLA) polymers. The two partners plan to build a world-class PLA polymerization plant with a capacity of 75,000 tons per year at Corbion's site in Thailand that already has a lactide (PLA monomer) production unit that will become part of the joint venture. Corbion will supply the lactic acid necessary for the production of the PLA and the lactide.
11.26.16 | PSi leadership announced 20 new job openings in the Columbus Ohio HQ and manufacturing sites. "We are adding 17 shop floor operators and 3 new positions in process improvement and administration." Says VP of Operations, Erich Emhuff. Sales are up over 20% in The Americas for 2017. The company is comissioning new extrusion lines and adding a new shift on both of PSi's new high-speed slitters to meet growing demand. "We've had particularly strong demand for the company's new EarthFirst UL thin gauge, compostable, sealant films for flexible packaging converters.
